Spring break extras

So because of how many places we go on Easter we celebrate early and we can get away with it! Not sure how many more years we can get away with it but it will make this Easter slightly easier!

So we colored eggs at my moms and we colored chocolate candy eggs that came with food coloring markers that I will use later to write love notes on boogs lunch items and then we had the Easter bunny visit us early. He brought a basket ball hoop arcade style game filled with fun goodies!

Spring break day 9

Saturday day 9 of spring break.

Original plans: go to the home of grave digger (it's a monster truck) for a monster egg hunt (10,000 eggs some with up to $500 in them!) then go to the truck and tractor pull.

What actually happened: well Friday night boog ended up staying the night at Grammys house so me and hubby slept in. We woke up to a monsoon outside (ok it wasn't that bad but the yard was yucky and was only a preview of what was hugging the coastline of NC and VA all day! And then the d-bag (excuse my language) that hubby works part time for changed the schedule WITH OUT notifying hubby ahead of time (pretty sure there is a policy about changing someone schedule with out telling them) so he ended up going to work. So I went over to my moms and then boog, my mom, my sister and me went and painted pottery! It was a fun relaxing rainy day activity! Boog painted this octopus trinket box thing and I painted 2 more napkin ring holders to add to my set that I'm slowly working on accumulating!

Spring break day 8

Friday day 8 of spring break:

Once again plans didn't go as we hoped. It was cold and rainy. ALL day long. So instead of going bike riding at sea shore state park (which is now known as first landing state park but will forever remain in locals minds as sea shore state park we went to the indoor water park at the rec center and it was a blast!

Spring break (day 7)

Thursday day 7 of spring break:

So we originally planned to wake up early (when I say early I mean 9am --yes that's early for us on a non school day- yes boog normally sleeps in, I sleep trained him as a baby and he has been an awesome sleeper ever sense and we have rules about home day mornings but more on that at a later date!) and drive to knotts island and take the ferry down to currituck sound and then drive the rest of the way to kill devil hills and enjoy jockeys ridge where the sand dunes were and get duck donuts along the way.

---EPIC FAIL!!!!---

We didn't wake up till 10 and didn't leave the house till noon.
We didn't take the ferry.
And we didn't stop at duck donuts.
It was chilly at home and freezing on the dunes.
It was so windy that it took 2 hours to get across to the edge of the dunes and back.
We got sand blasted the entire time.
But we did have fun and on the way home we stopped at the inlaws for red beans and rice.

Spring break (day 6)

Wednesday (day 6 of spring break!)

Well aside from it being free coffee day and my little brothers birthday I went on my first interview in um almost 4 years it was for the promo team at the radio station and honestly my only motivation was to get the free stuff 😄 unfortunately I didn't get the job but I'm not sure I really wanted it anyways. I love being with my son and doing the fun things with him over school breaks (my parents are teachers so they always had off when we were out of school so the idea of working outside the home during a school break makes my stomach hurt) and it won't be long before I get to take care of my sweet little niece or nephew (still don't know what the baby will be, she is waiting till birth!) after the interview we went and ate a birthday lunch for my brother at Johnny rockets it was super yummy 😄😄😄 and then headed home for a nap before church (it's royal ranger night and boog had an Easter egg hunt with his  group! Of course I sent in goody bags and leader treats!)

Spring break 2014 (day 5)

Spring break day 5 Tuesday:

We spent the morning running around the very packed aquarium that apparently 6 schools from 2 city's over were on a field trip at with my friend K and her 3 boys (only 2 were old enough to enjoy what little of it we could enjoy with how many people were crowding the place!) it was their first time however not our first time prob our 200th time going (we have a membership which is fantastic! I highly suggest getting memberships to your local museums and parks, we have one to botanical gardens, and the rec center too!) then we went and got our free tax day fries from Arby's! Love free things!

Spring break (day 4)

Monday-day 4

We enjoyed the morning and a picnic lunch at botanical gardens with daddy before he went to work! So glad we have a membership here it will be a blast all summer!

Spring break (day 3)

Sunday-day three was filled with the morning into early afternoon being spent at the theme park in Williamsburg (about an hour to hour and a half away depending on traffic) he was once again stoked to be over the 42 inch mark and get to ride big rides with mommy! His favorite was the 4d movie ride. We even saw the Easter bunny and a Christmas tree in the same day lol! Then we went to my moms for Sunday funday dinner and fire (the feast included gator, salmon, shrimp, hush puppies, Mac and cheese, and gumbo followed by roasted peeps by the fire!)

Spring break 2014 (day 2)

Saturday- day 2 of spring break we had an early soccer game and then hit up the local big park in town (mount trashmore- for those not from here it was an old land fill that they covered up with dirt and then let grass grow and added a man made pond and then added a play ground) and we washed the cars and just enjoyed the sun shine!

Spring break! (Carnival night!)

So because of how hubby works and only gets one week vacation each year that we typically save for summer when we go camping. We spend spring break close to home and take fun day trips being tourists in our own home town area, some places we have been before but haven't been in a while thanks to school and sports and winter weather keeping us busy and indoors and some places we haven't been to before!

Day one was Friday so after hubby got home from working on a buddies car we ran a few errands to get things we needed for spring break & will continue to use all summer long as well as dug the coolers out of the garage. We hit up the carnival that came to town! It wasn't a big one but it was still fun! Boog is finally 43 inches tall (thanks to the shoes we picked up that had amazingly think insoles!) so he road the battering ram with me for the first time...he liked it...then he didn't like it...then he liked it...then he never wanted to ride it again lol.

And finished the night with a big bag of cotton candy and a funnel cake (we typically don't buy food at the fair because it has a hefty price tag and we can buy snacks else where for cheaper but we splurged)

What a week!

Its the week before spring break and it has been a rough one and if I wasn't looking forward to going on adventures and didn't want to punish myself then the little boy would be grounded to his room for the entire spring break! Not only has boog come down with a horrible attitude he has also gotten the worst report from his teachers ever!
He ran out of the gated play ground at his school and hid from his teachers they couldn't find him for 15 mins! And then talked ugly to his teacher! So not only did he get in trouble at school he got it when he got home and then again from dad. All the while he claimed he had no idea why he did it. So he continued the evening sitting in his room and thing about what he did. About an hour and a half later he finally came down and told me that he ran away because someone from the other class pushed him down the slide and he didn't want his friends to see him cry. So we talked about why it was wrong (which he knew that he could have gotten hurt or stolen) but I felt it was important that he understood he could have gotten his teachers in trouble- so I left him with the thought that he could have gotten his teachers fired from their job, which would mean no more money, which would mean they couldn't pay for their house or food, and sent him back to his room to think about what he wanted to say in his apology letter to his teacher.
So about 30 mins later he came back down ready to write his letter, he told me what he wanted it to say so I wrote it down so he knew how to spell the words and he wrote it underneath. It took about 30 mins and he did rather well I think! So today we had planned on making him wake up early and take it to school to give to his teacher but unfortunately the universe works against us and we didn't wake up in time to go before hubby had to head to work. So we will just send it in when spring break is over.
We did end up going to the library to check out Alexander and the terrible horrible no good very bad day! He enjoyed getting his own library card and we also checked out a dinosaur book and a bird book!

Flash back- st pattys day fun!

Ok like I have mentioned and as many of you already know I find any and every excuse to "celebrate" so st pattys day was nothing less then a green filled weekend!
We did the final mile for operation smile in the shamrock marathon (we did 25.2 miles over the month of February and March and then we would do the final mile with everyone else at the marathon) so Friday his lunch was all green items with a special note to get him excited for the big day!
Friday night we gave him a green fo-hawk and got to bed early. Saturday we woke up extra early to rush to the rec center to sign up for summer camp -because you know they had to schedule registration for 3 hours on the same day as the parade and marathon and I thought I was being smart by being there early with the paperwork all filled out and ready to go-which reminds me I need to swing by the doc office and get medical release forms filled out and turn those back in- but nope there was at least 50 people in front of me and NONE of them had their paperwork complete but of course that didn't mean I could cut it wasn't like we were decked out in green gear and you couldn't tell we had somewhere to be!
Next year I will be prepared and register online!) so then we rushed down to the beach to complete the final mile only to find out that they had already ran, so devastated we drove away from the beach and went to my moms house (Grammy saves the day!) and she took us down to the convention center for a craft show where in all actuality all we did was eat samples of food and buy food and go into the race expo and get free stuff (stickers tattoos sunglasses beads etc) it was a blast!
Then we went to color me mine and painted pottery for pajama night! It was well worth the day! And followed that with a lazy Sunday! But of course Monday was covered in green again! We had green hair and tattoos and green shamrock stickers all over his green item lunch!
We then had green B4D (breakfast for dinner) and a green colored bath!
Any excuse to up sell a day and make it special and fun is well worth the extra time and energy and making a fool of yourself, they won't always want to do it and they won't think it's awesome much longer!
By the way I emailed the lady in charge if the final mile, we completed the last mile from home and she mailed him his medal!

Sprinter is over!?

Well we had by far the coldest longest winter virginia beach has ever had (well that I can remember at least) and it ran into spring and gave us sprinter but I think it has finally come to an end! I think we finally have spring! It's going to be a wonderful 85 degrees today!
But during our sprinter we took advantage of every single warm day possible and Boog learned to finally ride his big boy bike -he was scared of how the training wheels wobbled for the last year and refused to move up from his 12 inch bike where he can touch the ground flat footed and have complete control over the situation to his new 16 inch bike that We got him last summer so we stuck it in the shed and forgot all about it well at Christmas time Grammy stepped the game up with this really awesome hot wheels bike that has a speedometer on it and don't you know all the cool kids have those!
And he tackled the bike no problem! He still doesn't understand how to stop so he either puts his feet down or falls over onto the grass but gets up yells a big YES! Like he just did a dare devil stunt and gets back on! He also learned how to roller skate with out holding anyone's hands! (We got him these roller skates last year as well for a skate night with royal rangers at the skating rink-where hubby and I spent many of our Friday and Saturday nights growing up- but he would only skate while holding your hands and very tense. This year for skate night it was like we had a new kid no fear in his eyes and skating all over the place!)

Silly fun things!

Well every Friday is deemed donut day we go to dunkin before school to get donuts makes Fridays a little more special!
And exciting but we also take advantage of ALL the free item days that we can! So we enjoyed national pancake day with our free short stack of pancakes at IHOP 3 different times! It happened to be a snow day so we got to get free pancakes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner that day! (Don't worry we ordered sides of bacon so we didn't just eat syrup covered fluffiness all day long!)
and then we also enjoyed national Italian ice day with 2 trips to the Italian ice place near us for a free small Italian ice!
And we enjoyed free donut day which it didn't snap a picture of (my bad we were in a hurry to school) and I enjoyed national Iced coffee day with my free iced coffe this past Monday (again no picture but I found out that the entire month of April the local dunkin donuts will give me a free medium iced coffee every Monday! Oh heyyyy!) it's so silly to stand in long lines or go out of the way to get a free snack but the enjoyment on boogs face makes it totally worth it! I encourage you to find all the free silly things like this in your area!

Snow days 2014

So we did get 6 snow days this winter plus the deep freeze and being the person that I am I over exaggerated and over documented the fun and excitement of it going from 65+ degrees to under 20 degrees (and essentially got as cold as -2 degrees) in a 24 hour time span and again when we got 6 inches of snow!

We did a science experiment by filling up a water balloon and setting it outside and checking on it every 2 hours and noting the temp! It didn't take long to freeze! And then he enjoyed seeing how long the warm water in the sink would take to melt the ice marble!

And like we always did when I was growing up, the night before expected snow we wear our pajamas inside out and flush ice down the toilet! He got a huge kick out of it! And we ended up with lots of snow the next morning and we made snow cream and ate it before breakfast! I mean come on who doesn't do that!? We had snow ball fights and went sledding (the top of the hill had knee deep snow!) and read snowman themed books! --we didn't end up making a snowman because the snow in our yard was too fluffy to pack but he didn't seem to mind!
